Communal Kitchen IV - 6/17/17 PER ADULT
Gitanjali and Roopali are back with a fourth year of Communal Kitchen - presenting the mouthwatering cuisine of Awadh – the land of nabobs, kebobs and wine. The Awadh kingdom represented the apotheosis of Indian art, culture, music, poetry and food. Influenced by the cuisine of Persia, the food of Awadh highlights exotic spices, herbs, cream and nuts. The chefs of the kingdom of Awadh were famous for inventing the “Dum” technique, the art of braising food very slowly over a low flame overnight. Reviving the dying art of Dum for an evening, Roopali and Gitanjali will prepare Awadhi delicacies for your delectation. Enjoy a convivial evening of delicious food, wine and enchanting company at the Bakshi residence on Saturday, June 17th at 7pm.

Book Discussion: Tea, Scones and Swing Time - 5/20/17 PER ADULT
A famous poet once described the ideal evening as "A Jug of Wine, a Loaf of Bread -- and Thou". Add an ambitious and exuberant tale of race, class and friendship to that mix and you have all the elements needed for a truly sparkling evening. Join the company of other talented and articulate moms to spend an afternoon discussing the beautifully written novel Swing Time by author Zadie Smith. BBC.com called it, “A virtuoso performance, filled with distinct and nuanced observations about dance, race, class, celebrity, global culture, appropriation and the special intimacies between girlfriends and between mothers and daughters.” Our very own Lisa Eckstrom, English faculty, avid reader, PCS head of school for teens and tweens, has kindly consented to keep the hilarity in check and lead the discussion. In keeping with the north London setting of the book, a traditional English cream tea with scones and sandwiches, will be served. Ladies mark your calendars for Saturday, May 20th from 4-6pm at the Gupta-Dhaul residence.
