Why Contribute to Princeton Charter School (PCS)

Opportunity of educational excellence

PCS is a community public school that provides an opportunity of educational excellence to K-8 students who mostly reside in Princeton.
  • Admission is via lottery and is open to all students that reside in the Princeton area
  • In August of 2013, PCS was ranked #1 Middle School and #2 Elementary School in New Jersey out of 700 and 1,300 schools, respectively, by JerseyCAN.

Active parent involvement

PCS has thrived on an active parent involvement from its inception.
  • 17 years ago, PCS was approved by the Princeton Regional School Board, and founded by a group of parents who personally funded and raised money from within the community to bring their vision to fruition. This support continues today with generous donations of time and money from parents.
  • PCS parents are active members of the community, providing input and taking initiatives that continue to offer an outstanding educational experience for our students.

Reliance on donations

PCS relies on community and parent donations to fill the funding gap, since it is budgeted for less than the Princeton Public Schools. Expenses directly related to student instructions are identical to the public schools. However all facilities, technology infrastructure and services, and after-school program expenses are funded by private donations from the community and parents. Previously, funds have been used wholly or in part to:
  • Subsidize the existing after-school sports, as well as science, music, and art clubs
  • Renovate the playground
  • Purchase iPads for K-2 instruction
  • Fund author visits and field trips
  • Provide teacher training grants
  • Design & construction of the Campus Center that houses the gymnasium, Black Box Theater, music and art rooms (2008)

Friends of PCS is a charitable, nonprofit corporation under section 501c (3) of the Internal Revenue Code (EIN# 22-3483674). As such your contribution will be tax deductible to the full extent permitted by law.
